Mike Sonko asks President Ruto to fire ex-president Uhuru Kenyatta

President William Ruto has for the first time censured retired President Uhuru Kenyatta’s love for reggae music.

Last week, Rtd President Uhuru Kenyatta vowed to keep on supporting Azimio la Umoja One Kenya Coalition Party leader Raila Odinga.

Speaking in Luanda, Vihiga County, shortly after attending the burial of former Education Cabinet Secretary George Magoha in Siaya County, Uhuru said he would continue to rally behind Raila in his fight for the unity and liberation of all Kenyans.

“Even if I am not in active politics, I am still a follower of Raila. When he tells me to go, I must go,” Uhuru said.

The remarks by Uhuru appear not to have been well received by a section of President William Ruto‘s allies.

For instance, former Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko wondered why Uhuru was supporting someone who insists that he does not recognize William Ruto as the legitimate President.

Sonko, who was speaking in Nakuru during an interdenominational church service, said it was wrong for Uhuru to support someone who is opposing his employer.

As such, the flamboyant politician asked the Head of State to sack his predecessor Uhuru Kenyatta as a peace envoy for siding with Raila Odinga.

“Akiendelea kukudharau, futa yeye kazi (If he continues to despise you, fire him),” Sonko said in reference to Uhuru Kenyatta.

During his swearing-in last year,  William Ruto appointed his predecessor Uhuru Kenyatta as his peace envoy for the Great Lakes Region and the Horn of Africa making him continue chairing regional peace interventions on behalf of the Government of Kenya.

“I have committed that the government of Kenya will support those initiatives that will be chaired by President Kenyatta and I want to thank you Excellency for graciously agreeing to support us and help me in those interventions,” President Ruto said.

Sonko further asked President Ruto not to put up with the opposition’s character of undermining the office of the presidency.
