Millicent Omanga hints at female politician who could be Ruto’s running mate

by Enock Ndayala

Nominated Senator Millicent Omanga has dropped the clearest hint that Kirinyaga Governor Anne Waiguru could be Deputy President William Ruto’s running mate.

This comes less than a month since Waiguru was named the strongest Mt Kenya politician to be William Ruto’s running mate in the August 9, elections.

On Tuesday, April 12, Omanga, a close ally of the deputy president shared a picture of the Kenya Kwanza presidential flag bearer shaking hands with former Devolution CS suggesting that Kenya should expect the first woman as the deputy president if Ruto wins.

“We’re breaking the glass ceiling in this election. The first female deputy president loading…..!” Omanga captioned Ruto’s picture with Waiguru.

Presidential front runners William Ruto and ODM leader Raila Odinga are both focused on the huge Mt Kenya voting bloc for their running mates since the region will not be fielding a serious presidential candidate in this year’s polls.

Presidential aspirants have until April 28 to pick their running mates but until now, it is not clear who the presidential frontrunners of Raila and Ruto will settle on as their respective number two ahead of the August 9 presidential election.

In August 2021, Apostle Damaris Mumbi advised William Ruto to nominate a female running mate in this year’s presidential elections.

In her ‘prophetic message’ posted on her Youtube, the apostle said that William Ruto shall have a very smooth reign as president only if he has a female as the deputy president.

“The Holy Spirit told me that for William Ruto to rule (as president) in peace without any problems he needs a woman Deputy President,

“And when I say that William Ruto should get a lady that would become his deputy president, it is not just any woman but he should be very careful and pick the right person,” the Chariots Fire International Ministries preacher said.

With Ruto racing against time to nominate his running mate, reports have been pointing at Mathira MP Rigathi Gachagua and his Kikuyu counterpart Kimani Ichungwa had been identified as the potential running mate for Ruto.
