Meru Senator Mithika Linturi has hit back at President Uhuru Kenyatta after he asked Kenyans not to elect thieves who will ruin his legacy.

Speaking in Kiambu County on Friday, October 29, the retiring Head of State cautioned Kenyans against electing thieves and crooks who may mess up his legacy and that of retired President Mwai Kibaki.

Appearing on Citizen TV on Monday, November 1, the Meru senator said he does not know who the Head of State was referring to adding that President Uhuru is to blame for what he termed as a poor state of the economy.

“If there is anybody who has brought down Kibaki’s legacy it is him. Kibaki left us with a very vibrant economy,” said Linturi.

Senator Linturi further claimed that more Kenyans have become poor especially since 2013 when President Uhuru Kenyatta took over the leadership of the country.

“(Retired President Mwai) Kibaki left us knowing our hard work pays because we would do coffee, our matatu business and we would get money. Our people have become poor during Uhuru’s time,” he said.

On Friday, October 29, the first in command warned Kenyans against electing ‘thieves’ who will plunder the country and water down all the gains his administration and that of his predecessor Mwai Kibaki have made.

The president who was speaking in Kiambu county urged scrutinise the leaders who want elective positions and only vote in those whose agenda is peace and uniting the country.

“I urge you, don’t be incited. Choose leaders who will ensure this country remains peaceful and united and those who will carry on with the work we already started and not take us back to where we came from,” said President Kenyatta in his native Kikuyu language.

He added: “Please don’t allow Mwai Kibaki’s 10 years and my 10 years to be destroyed by electing thugs and thieves.”
