Moses Kuria on why he will not defend his Gatundu South seat next year

by Nderi Caren

Gatundu South MP Moses Kuria has declared that he will not be vying for any political seat in 2022 General Election.

After serving Gatundu South constituency for two consecutive terms, Kuria has now shifted focus to the larger Mt Kenya region.

The legislator told journalists that instead of vying for a political seat in 2022, he will focus on building his party.

“I have decided, I will not vie for any political seat in the 2022 General Election. “I am focussed on building Chama Cha Kazi for the interest of Mt Kenya,” he said on Tuesday, August 31.

The Gatundu South MP has lately been vocal about the need to have a strong political party for the Mt Kenya region, which is the largest voting block in Kenya.

“I think it is unfair. It is the first time, in 30 years, we have agreed that we (Mt Kenya) are not going to have someone on top of the ticket from this region,
“Now we agree to that and you want to deny us the chance of having a party? It is unfair, unacceptable,” he said while dismissing calls to fold his party before joining United Democratic Alliance (UDA), a party associated with Deputy President William Ruto.

In a separate interview on August 31, Mathira MP Rigathi Gachagua said that Moses Kuria and Former Agriculture CS Mwangi Kiunjuri will be part of the next government.

Rigathi, who has been locking horns with Kuria and Kiunjuri over the formation of parties in the Mt Kenya region said that the issue will be sorted and have the two on the same page with the UDA team.

“It is only that we are having some difference in opinion in terms of strategy. How do we win this presidential vote for William Ruto? Do we go the UDA way all of us, or do we get small parties and get into a coalition?” he posed.

This is a change of tune from his earlier statement where he dismissed Kuria’s team for their call on building Mt Kenya parties.
