Gatundu South Member of Parliament Moses Kuria has revealed how Jubilee Party started crumbling apart slowly.
During an interview on KTN News, the Gatundu South MP said that the fallout in Jubilee Party did not start after Raila Odinga’s handshake with Uhuru.
He says that was just part of the causes since the loopholes started appearing even before the March 2018 handshake with Raila Odinga.
“The Jubilee that came immediately after 2017, even before the repeat elections was very different from the Jubilee that I, painstakingly, contributed to building,” he said.
The MP further said that there were disagreements in Jubilee Party, and the leadership failed to initiate dialogue.
“We have had only four parliamentary group meetings for Jubilee in this term (2017 to date). The first one was after Maraga nullified elections and it did not go well,” he said.
Moses Kuria said the following parliamentary group meetings did not go well either, a sure sign the party has started its downward spiral.
He dismissed reports that the handshake between Raila Odinga and Uhuru Kenyatta led to the collapse of Jubilee.
“Nobody can ever fight peace but the Jubilee party never sat down to discuss the handshake (between its party leader President Uhuru and Raila Odinga). I remember I was somewhere in Gatundu when I was told about the handshake,” he said.
The outspoken legislator also said the Jubilee party never held a meeting to agree on the proposed constitutional amendment, popularly referred to us as BBI, a matter which caused sharp divisions within the ruling party.
According to him, the opposition coalition, then National Super Alliance, appeared more organised and had a common view regarding the collapsed plan to amend the constitution compared to the Jubilee party
The legislator also spoke about his broken relationship with President Uhuru Kenyatta whom he has not spoken to for 3 years.
“It is still a privilege that I spoke to the president there years ago, they are some people in this country who have never spoken to the president,” Kuria said sarcastically.
The once-dominant and vibrant Jubilee party has since been reduced to a shadow of its former self following a fallout between Party leader President Uhuru allies and his deputy party leader William Ruto as well as his allies.
Recently, Kirinyaga Governor Anne Waiguru said it will be difficult for her to defend her seat on the Jubilee party in the 2022 General Election, pointing to how low the party has sunk.
There have even been calls to change the party’s top leadership with Secretary General Raphael Tuju and Vice-chairman David Murathe being blamed for ruining the party’s fortunes.
