Bungoma Senator Moses Wetang’ula has told Mathira MP Rigathi Gachagua that she is not interested in being Deputy President William Ruto’s running mate.

He said the Kenya Kwanza coalition’s main agenda was to ensure equitable resource sharing, as well as service, deliver to all Kenyans regardless of their status.

“Kenya Kwanza Alliance is not about sharing positions but service to Kenyans, inter alia, revival, and growth of the economy, reduction of the debt nightmare, restoration of dignity to our farmers, creation of an equitable society and other pro-people programs,” Wetang’ula said in a Tweet.

Wetang’ula was responding to Rigathi Gachagua’s remarks on William Ruto’s choice of running mate for the August 9, presidential election.

While appearing on a morning television program, Rigathi said that as far as he is concerned, there is a general consensus that William Ruto is the de facto presidential candidate for UDA.

Rigathi, a fierce critic of President Uhuru Kenyatta insisted that William Ruto’s running mate must come from the vote-rich Mt Kenya region.

“While the running mate will come from the mountain at the appropriate time as it was discussed,” said Rigathi during an interview on Citizen TV on Monday.

He said that the two former One Kenya Alliance co-principals Musalia Mudavadi and Moses Wetang’ula should not expect to be Ruto’s running mates stating that UDA had already structured its line up for the polls even before they teamed up with the deputy president.

“When they (Mudavadi and Wetang’ula) came for discussion we were very fort-right because we are honest people. They were told that we agreed that running mate is from the mountain (Mt Kenya region). We don’t want to con someone. They will not be running mates,” Gachagua said.
