Ruto ally struggles to explain bottom-up economic model on live TV

by Enock Ndayala

Kandara Member of Parliament Alice Wahome had a tough time trying to explain in simple terms what exactly the bottom-up economic model, Ruto’s 2022 campaign message, is all about.

In an interview with Citizen TV on Wednesday, July 28, Wahome appeared completely clueless when the show host asked her to distinguish between the bottom-up and trickle-down economic models in simple terms.

The visibly dumbfounded MP, a vicious supporter of Willliam Ruto’s 2022 presidential ambition stuttered and stammered as she tried to get the right phrases to use in distinguishing the two economic models.

Wahome said Ruto’s bottom-up economic model -which is at the center of his 2022 presidential campaign message -simply means “working from the bottom to down,”

Upon be corrected by the show host who suggested perhaps the MP meant to say working from the bottom going up, she jumped in saying ‘ it means working from top to bottom,’

Ruto’s bottom-up economic approach, whose main thrust is empowering the common man, has attracted a lot of criticism from his political opponents trying to debunk his campaign messaging.

On Tuesday, July 27, Jubilee Party Secretary General Raphael Tuju sarcastically took a swipe at DP William Ruto’s bottom-up economy model.

“This issue of the bottoms-up economy, maybe Peter Kenneth (former presidential candidate and Gatanga MP) you can translate it. What is it in Swahili? Matako juu?” Raphael Tuju said as he exited the podium, leaving the crowd laughing uncontrollably.

Earlier on, the ODM party through its Secretary General Edwin Sifuna sensationally claimed that William Ruto’s wing copied NASA’s manifesto on economic empowerment hence the DPs team understands very little about the model.

“Over a year ago I asked David Ndii to share the bottom-up blueprint and he shared the NASA Manifesto instead,

“I do not know why then William Ruto thinks growing the economic capacity of everyday Kenyans is his original idea. You just plagiarised the Nasa Manifesto,” Sifuna said.

According to BottomUp.org, a bottom-up economy is a transition from concentrated wealth to worker ownership and community capital.

It is almost the opposite of the trickle-down economic model which states that tax breaks and benefits for corporations and the wealthy will trickle down to everyone else.
