MP Babu Owino explains why most elected politicians are stupid

by Enock Ndayala

A section of elected politicians from the vote-rich Mt Kenya region has in the recent past been involved in a heated exchange with their western region counterpart.

This was fueled by the recent utterances by Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua directed at Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja for allegedly persecuting businesspeople from the Kikuyu community.

“We do not want his high speed [in making decisions] and I have summoned him for a sitting…It is a no for any of his decisions that might have a negative effect on our people.

“We made you governor and we are vigilant on our interests. We must get involved in decisions that have an effect on our people,” Gachagua said in December 2021.

This saw an MP from the western region threaten to table an impeachment motion against the deputy president.

As such, a section of elected leaders from Nyeri County led by governor Mutahi Kahiga warned their counterparts from the western region against accusing Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua of trying to micro-manage Nairobi governor Johnson Sakaja.

But in a statement on Tuesday, January 3, Embakasi East Member of Parliament Babu Owino slammed leaders preaching tribal politics.

In what appeared that the remarks were directed at Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, Babu without mentioning names termed those politicians advancing tribal interest as “stupid”.

“It’s pure balderdash for leaders to be tribal in this country. Mara sisi kama Luhyas, mara sisi kama Kikuyus, mara sisi kama wajaluo, this is nonsensical. Most leaders you elected are stupid,” said Owino on Tuesday, January 3.
