Last week, opposition leader Raila Odinga announced that the Azimio coalition will hold interdenominational prayers to pray for the country and the electoral agency.

The rally coached as a “call for prayers” is expected to be held this morning at the Jivanjee Gardens.

It also appears to be a direct response to the looming reconstitution of the commission, which Azimio insists favors the Executive as his political war against President William Ruto enters defining stage.

“We will also be doing a prayer… a prayer for the IEBC so that we get an IEBC that will defend the rights of our people and that prayer will be done in front of the IEBC premises sometime next week,” Raila Odinga said.

As such, Embakasi East Member of Parliament Babu Owino has invited ex-IEBC chairperson Wafula Chebukati to the prayer rally at Jivanjee Gardens.

In a statement on Tuesday, February 21, the youthful lawmaker said that Chebukati rigged Raila Odinga out of the president and that he should attend and ask for forgiveness.

“I want to take this opportunity to invite all Kenyans from all walks of life to come for prayers at Jivanjee Gardens starting at 9:00 am,

“Those who are guilty like Chebukati come to Jivanjee Gardens and we will also forgive you,” Babu Owino said.

While it is feared that the prayer rally might evolve into running battles with law enforces who have severally warned against disruption of businesses, the ODM lawmaker assured their supporters that the event will be peaceful.

“We will be very peaceful and those who want to repent of their sins, come and repent,” he added.

Initially, the opposition had planned to conduct the prayer rally at the gate of Anniversary Towers, the headquarters of IEBC a plan that was vacated over the weekend.

Other opposition luminaries including Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka and Narc Kenya Party leader Martha Karua are expected to attend.
