Embakasi East MP Babu Owino had on Thursday, September 22, faulted the ODM party for shortchanging him in his parliamentary job.
The vocal legislator claimed that the ODM party had promised him the Parliamentary Accounts Committee (PAC) only to learn that the slot had been awarded to nominated MP John Mbadi.
Owino, however, maintained that the time had come for the controversial lawmaker to demand what was his and that he had sacrificed a lot for the Raila Odinga-led party over the years.
“With Due respect why should Hon John Mbadi come down from the position of Majority leader to PAC chair which was reserved for me? This will not happen!!! Over my dead body…Young people must get their space… it’s now or never,” Babu Owino said.
But on Friday, September 23, Homa Bay Town Member of Parliament Peter Kaluma silenced Babu Owino for insisting that he must be given a parliamentary job.
Kaluma told his Embakasi East that the Azimio la Umoja One Kenya Coalition party leader Raila Odinga does not owe him anything.
The legislator instead said it was Babu Owino who owes Raila who he said helped him to retain his Embakasi East parliamentary seat.
While terming Babu as a “kid” Kaluma further said Babu had done nothing apart from shouting “tialala” and “tibim.”
“Raila Odinga has enabled you to serve two terms as a Member of Parliament just for shouting Tialala and Tibim. What more does Baba owe you, kid bro?” Kaluma asked Babu.
This appears to have caused disquiet in ODM after a section of legislators called out the political outfit for unfairness while dishing out party positions.
However, in a statement on Friday, September 23, the party refuted claims that there was disquiet in Raila Odinga’s party.
“We are united, strong, and focused,” the ODM party said in a statement.
