Sabina Chege blasts Kikuyu MPs begging William Ruto

Opposition leader Raila Odinga’s Azimio la Umoja held its first-ever Parliamentary Group Meeting since the hotly contested 2022 elections.

Murang’a Woman Representative Sabina Chege has dismissed talks held between deputy president William Ruto and a section of Mt. Kenya leaders.

Speaking after the DP held a 3-day consultative meeting with members of the Tanga Tanga brigade from Central, Sabina said that whatever they were asking for was good, but they were doing it in the wrong way.

According to her, Ruto was more obliged to approach the Mt Kenya legislators and woo them with an offer, and not vice versa where the leaders go to him with their demands.

She compared it with a beautiful bride who has to wait for the groom to entice her, and not to take themselves.

“It is good for people to visit and table their demands. But you know, we have always been saying if you are the beautiful bride, you should wait for somebody to woo you,” Said Sabina Chege.

She further added that the leaders should not be giving Ruto a list of requirements, but instead ask him what he has to offer them since they (Mt Kenya region) hold a majority of votes.

“I don’t think they should be demanding; they shouldn’t go with a list; just ask ‘what do you have for me on the table. If you have 3 guys who would want to marry you, you take the best offer. It’s a good step but I am hoping they are doing it for the community and not themselves,” She went on.

Sabina’s sentiments were as a result of the meeting held between Ruto and Tanga Tanga leaders from Mt Kenya region over the weekend.

During the discussions, the leaders promised to support Ruto’s presidential bid as long as they are assured that he will settle on a running mate from Central Kenya.

After the discussions, Ruto said that they had agreed on involving hustlers in talks on his political aspirations and his economic vision for the country.

“We must engineer a fundamental paradigm shift from the perennial politics of personalities, positions, and power to a candid, open, and frank engagement with the people on the economy, their aspirations and their future,” he wrote.
