Suba North MP Millie Odhiambo has proposed for harsh penalties for partners who release bedroom photos or videos to victimize their women.
Speaking in Parliament on Thursday, April 20, the vocal ODM legislator condemned the victimization of women due to their involvement in sexual relations saying it amounts to harassment.
Mabona proposed life imprisonment for people who will be found to have leaked private photos and or videos of their partners to embarrass them.
“I don’t support the death penalty, but if I did, I would support the death penalty for such people, but since I don’t support the death penalty, I think we need to enhance the sentencing to life imprisonment,” she said.
Currently, posting nudity is an offense under the Computer Misuse and Cybercrimes Act which specifically provides for a jail term of up to two years or a fine not exceeding KSh 200,000 or both.
“A person who transfers, publishes or disseminates, including making a digital depiction available for distribution or download through a telecommunications network or through any other means of transferring data to a computer, the intimate or obscene image of another person commits an offense and is liable, on conviction to a fine not exceeding two hundred thousand shillings or imprisonment for a term not exceeding two years, or both,” reads Section 37 of the Act.
Odhaimbo’s proposal comes just days after a bedroom video believed to be that of Interior Chief Administrative Secretary (CAS) Millie Odhiambo surfaced online.
In the video secretly taken in a hotel room, a woman with a striking resemblance to the former nominated senator was photographed while asleep with her buttocks exposed.
