Mt Kenya man picked to lead Raila Odinga’s 2022 presidential campaign

ODM leader Raila Odinga has picked Mt Kenya man to lead his campaign for the August 2022 presidential contest in which he is poised to meet William Ruto as his strongest challenger.

In a statement on Wednesday, January 5, the opposition leader said he had settled on Laikipia Governor Ndiritu Muriithi as the Chairman of Raila Odinga’s presidential campaign board.

“The Governor of Laikipia Ndiritu Muriithi, has been nominated and accepted to become chair of the board of the Raila Odinga 2022 Campaign,” said Raila.

The board will be the former prime minister’s presidential campaign engine that will drive his bid to succeed President Uhuru Kenyatta who is expected to retire after the upcoming elections.

Muriithi who is serving his first term is the current finance, planning, and economic affairs committee chairperson of the Council of Governors elected in January 2021.

He is a former World Bank economist and financial markets, expert.

“Upon his election as Governor of Laikipia in 2017, Muriithi embarked on radical reforms of the county public service to make it professional and globally competitive,

“These efforts have been rewarded with unmatched growth of the county’s own source revenue which has doubled since the 2016/2017 financial year,” Raila said.

Muriithi will work hand in hand with Elizabeth Meyo who was appointed to serve as the chief executive of the board.

Meyo who is the current consultant to the International Monetary Fund (IMF), brings over three decades of administrative and strategic experience to the position.

“She is the immediate former Commissioner of the Domestic Taxes Department at Kenya Revenue Authority,” Raila stated.

Raila who is enjoying the backing of President Uhuru Kenyatta is assembling a formidable team that he expected will outshine that of his main competitor William Ruto.

Raila fell out with former National Super Alliance co-principals and is determined to bank on regional kingpins and think tanks to have a winning lineup as the clock ticks towards the 2022 elections.
