The former ANC party leader recalled how Sulumeti gifted him together with his wife a bottle of beer during his wedding decades ago.

Mudavadi disclosed that he had paid a courtesy call to the man of the cloth for his blessings only to be given a bottle of beer.

“One thing that the Bishop did when we went to his chamber, he offered me a beer. I looked at him and said my God is the Bishop trying to trap me or something, I don’t understand this what do I do?” Mudavadi said.

He however said that he later came to realize that the beer was given in good faith adding that he was instructed to take in small doses not to lose his senses.

“I later learned that it was in good faith and what he was saying is that if indeed we are those who partake to it, take it in small doses and reasonable measure so that you don’t lose your senses,” Mudavadi said.

The former vice president further said that in his close to four decades of service as the Local Ordinary of Kakamega, Bishop Sulumeti was instrumental in the development of social amenities in the region.

“In education, Kakamega boasts of many Catholic-sponsored and especially girls’ schools,” he added.

Bishop Emeritus started his Episcopal Ministry in August 1972 as the Auxiliary Bishop of Kisumu Diocese.
