Murang’a Woman Rep Sabina Chege threatens to leave Jubilee party

by Enock Ndayala

Murang’a Woman Rep Sabina Chege has threatened to leave the Jubilee Party barely seven months to the August, 9 General Election.

Addressing the media on Thursday, January 6, the Kielweke legislator gave the ruling outfit a one-month ultimatum to rebrand failure to which she will have no option but to ditch the outfit.

She argued that the party members have been constrained from campaigning as they cannot even print a poster as the clock ticks towards the ballot.

“Jubilee should give us a direction. The party should be launched so as to enable us to start campaigning. Right now, we cannot even print posters because we feel constrained by the party,” she said.

The Murang’a Woman Rep further stated that she will announce her new political vehicle next month should President Uhuru Kenyatta’s party fail to relaunch by the end of this month.

“In February, I will make an announcement and reveal the party which I will use to contest and all other things,” she added.

The second-term MP who is reportedly seeking to replace Murang’a Governor Mwangi Wa Iria in the upcoming General Election further said she will engage her electorates to determine in whose hands they are safe.

“I have been involved in national politics but this time around, you will see me with my people in the village and they will help me know what direction I will go,” she added.

The ruling party has been losing players to Deputy President William Ruto’s United Democratic Alliance (UDA) party.

Already Kiambu Woman Rep Gathoni Wa Muchomba, Kirinyaga’s Anne Waiguru, and Cate Waruguru have ditched the Jubilee party.

The ruling outfit has combined forces with Raila Odinga’s ODM to push for the formation of Azimio la Umoja party through the Political Parties Amendment Bill 2021.
