Musalia Mudavadi on why western Kenya must register 1.2 million new voters ahead of 2022

ANC leader Musalia Mudavadi has assured his Western Kenya supporters that he will fly the One Kenya Alliance (OKA) flag in the 2022 presidential race if the region can register a sizeable number of new voters.

In an interview with Mulembe FM on Tuesday, October 5, Mudavadi said the entire Western region could have a total of 2.1 million voters by the time Kenyans go to the elections next year if all eligible voters register.

He exuded confidence that if the counties of Busia, Kakamega, Vihiga, and Bungoma could register an extra 1.2 million voters as targeted, then he stands a better chance of not only being the OKA flag bearer but also becoming the fifth president of Kenya.

“I appeal to Western Kenya to register as voters. If those who qualify register and support my candidature, don’t you think I will be the next president?” he posed.

Mudavadi said the formulae to pick the OKA presidential flag bearer will depend on the number of voters each of the four principals- Musalia Mudavadi, Kalonzo Musyoka, Gideon Moi, and Moses Wetangula- would have registered in their respective strongholds.

“The formula of picking a candidate in One Kenya Alliance (OKA) is in numbers. If you want me to have a say in the coalition, I must have the numbers,

“If you stay at home and say Musalia should be picked as the candidate it will not be possible,” Mudavadi said.

During the 2017 elections, Kakamega, Vihiga, Busia, and Bungoma counties had a total of 1.9 million registered voters according to the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) register.

Apart from Mudavadi, the OKA houses Kalonzo Musyoka (Wiper), Moses Wetang’ula (Ford Kenya), and Gideon Moi (KANU).

All the four principals have declared they will be taking a stab at the presidency come 2022.
