Musalia Mudavadi: What it takes to choose a presidential running mate

ANC leader Musalia Mudavadi assured his supporters that he will fly the One Kenya Alliance (OKA) flag in the 2022 presidential race if the region would have registered 1.2 million new voters.

ANC Party leader Musalia Mudavadi has shared details of what it takes for one to select a presidential running mate before the General Election.

Musalia, who was once a presidential contestant in the 2013 General Election says there are many considerations to put in place before settling on a running mate.

During an interview on KTN News, Mudavadi said the running mate should not only be attractive to voters but also be one with whom you enjoy a good relationship.

“When one is choosing a running mate, it is you who makes that decision and it is you to determine whether the chemistry between you and the person will work or not work,” Musalia Mudavadi said.

Musalia Mudavadi revealed that if the relationship between an aspirant and his running mate does not rhyme from the beginning, difficulties will emerge.

The former Sabatia MP explained that it is not always the contestant and the running mate have a very good relationship.

“The position of Deputy President, you may be the principal assistant of the president of the day, but you are not necessarily his closest advisor,” Musalia added.

In 2013, Musalia Mudavadi chose the current Ndaragwa MP Jeremiah Kioni as his presidential running mate.

The ANC leader turned out to be a laughing stock over his choice of a running mate after it emerged that he had no vote at the polling station where Kioni voted.

In his 2022 bid, Musalia Mudavadi has not declared his running mate, but Kirinyaga Governor Anne Waiguru has stood out to be one of his possible partners.

After her fallout with Jubilee Party, ANC has warmed up to Anne Waiguru hoping she will be their route to climbing Mt Kenya.

The party recently revealed that they are wooing the Kirinyaga county boss.
