Musalia Mudavadi’s party says it’s wooing embattled Kirinyaga governor Anne Waiguru

Amani National Congress (ANC) party has said it is courting embattled Kirinyaga Governor Anne Waiguru to the party as the season of political realignments gathers momentum ahead of the 2022 General Election.

This comes barely a day after the County boss expressed her concerns about the jubilee party, a political outfit she used to win the polls in the 2017 General Election.

ANC deputy party leader Ayub Savula on Thursday, September 9, while defending Waiguru said the KSh 52 million graft case against her is politically instigated after pointing out power wrangles in the vote-rich Mt Kenya region ahead of 2022 elections.

Amani National Congress (ANC) party has said it is courting embattled Kirinyaga Governor Anne Waiguru to the party as the season of political realignments gains heats ahead of the 2022 General Election.

Addressed journalists outside the anti-corruption headquarters after Waiguru had been grilled by sleuths from the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC), the Lugari MP said Waiguru will be their political kingpin in the Mt Kenya region should she give in to ANC advances.

“We know it is because of politics. We know that in Central it is very difficult to sell a certain political party and a certain individual, who is contesting for the presidency,

“As ANC, we are going to stand in solidarity with her and we are courting her to be one of our political kingpins in Central Kenya,” Savula said.

But in her official statement to media houses, governor Waiguru technically dodged to comment on the request by Musalia Mudavadi’s party but instead said that her summon to EACC was politically instigated and had nothing to do with the alleged misappropriation of funds.

“The summons by the EACC is ill-timed, politically instigated, and have nothing to do with the purported investigations on misappropriation of funds,” the Kirinyaga Governor said.

In her latest media interview on Wednesday, September 8, Waiguru said if the polls were held today it would be very difficult for her to retain her seat not because she has performed dismally but because of the tag of the Jubilee party.

“The truth of the matter is that defending my seat if the polls were held today would be very difficult, and that is the truth of the matter unless something changes in Jubilee,

“If I ran today on a Jubilee party ticket and someone else ran on a different party, even if people felt I had performed, it would be hard to convince them to vote for me,” she said.
