Musalia Mudavdi’s fiercest defender decamps to Raila Odinga’s camp

by Amos Khaemba

Amani National Congress leader Musalia Mudavadi seems to be experiencing the effects of his own ‘earthquake’ as ANC MPs continue to defect to Azimio, a movement led by ODM leader Raila Odinga.

The latest MP to decamp is his fiercest defender, the Lurambi MP Titus Khamala together with  Butere MP Tindi Mwale.

“Welcome onboard Hons. Tindi Mwale (Butere), Oscar Nabulindo (Matungu), Bishop Titus Khamala (Lurambi) and Chritopher Aseka (Kwisero). Azimio la Umoja is getting stronger and energized by the day. The house is bigger and everyone will have a room,” ODM posted on Twitter.

The MPs had a night meeting with ODM leader Raila Odinga on Thursday, January 27, which could have led them to defect

The move by Lurambi MP comes as surprise as he has been one of die-hard support of Mudavadi in the Western region even at some point he lashed out at the ODM secretary-general for disrespecting the ANC leader.

At one point during a burial ceremony last year, the Lurambi MP threw himself on the ground rolling several times while addressing mourners just to show his love for Mudavadi.

On Thursday, January 27, COTU Secretary General Francis Atwoli had hosted the legislatures in what pointed to an imminent defection of the leaders to Azimio.

Confirming the meeting Kwisero MP Christopher Aseka, who recently defected from ANC took to social media to welcome the MPs to Azimio.

“I was deligted to join Kakamega woman rep Elsie Muhanda and COTU Secretary General Francis Atwoli in welcoming Titus Khamala and Tindi Mwale to Azimio la Umoja,” Aseka said on a Facebook post.

“Almost all elected leaders in Kakamega are in Azimio la Umoja,” added Aseka.

The current defection is a blow to ANC leader coming less than a week since he announced his new partnership with Deputy President Musalia Mudavadi.

Since Mudavadi ‘earthquake,’ announcement five MPs from Kakamega County and a number of MCAs have defected from the ANC party.
