Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni said on Monday, October 17, that his outspoken son Muhoozi Kaneirugaba would stay off Twitter when it comes to affairs of state.

This was part of Museveni’s latest move to curtain his son over the recent series of provocative tweets Muhoozi made early this month.

For instance, General Muhoozi Kaneirugaba threatened to invade Kenya and take control of the country’s capital city-Nairobi in less than 14 days.

As such, Museveni, one of Africa’s longest-serving Heads of State in his latest media interview said his son will no longer comment on state affairs on Twitter.

“He will leave Twitter. We have this discussion. Twitter is not a problem. The problem is what you are tweeting about,” Museveni said.

However, in a statement on Tuesday, October 18, Kaneirugaba termed his father’s move to ban him from the social media network as a big ‘joke’.

The former Commander of Land Forces instead said he was an adult and that no one could either remove him from Twitter or restrict him from what he posts.

“I hear some journalists from Kenya ask my father to ban me from Twitter. Is that some kind of joke?? I am an adult and no one will ban me from anything,” Museveni’s son said.

The veteran politician had further warned his son against his involvement in what he termed as ‘partisan politics.’

Museveni had also proposed that the powerful General would still be able to take to social media as long as he restricts himself to comments about sports.

“Talking about other countries and partisan politics of Uganda is something he should not do and he will not do it,” Museveni added.
