Uganda President Yoweri Museveni’s son Muhoozi Kaneirugaba has vowed to succeed his father as the next Head of State.

The 50-year-old on Thursday, October 27, took to social media once again heaping praises on his mother terming her an “angel”.

As such, the former commander of the country’s infantry forces said the best gift he can give to his mother is to become the president of Uganda.

“The only way I can re-pay my great mother is by being President of Uganda. And I shall definitely do it,” Kainerugaba said in a Tweet.

It is understood that Museveni’s sixth term in office is expected to end in 2026.

Museveni has ruled Uganda for 35 years non-stop, ever since he shot his way to State House in a rebellion that outlasted former presidents Idi Amin, Milton Obote, and Yusuf Lule.

He has on two occasions benefitted from a change in the constitution, to alter the presidential term and age limits, so as to extend his stay in power.

However, in July 2022, Museveni dropped the biggest indication that he was ready to hang his boots when his current term of office expires.

Museveni, who spoke in Wakiso District on the outskirts of the country’s capital Kampala said he was contemplating going home and looking after his cows.

The 76-year-old who was speaking after laying a foundation stone for the multi-billion Biological Drugs and mRNA Vaccine manufacturing facility said his idea of retirement had been held back by the creation of the East African Federation.

“I want to go and look after my cows. Create a center of gravity, I push you there, then I go and look after my cows. I am very glad that His Excellency Ruto and other Kenyan and East African leaders support this idea,” Museveni said.
