Two months ago, Uganda President Yoweri Museveni’s son Muhoozi Kaneirugaba said that he was the country’s next president-designate.

The Former Commander of Land Forces said he will defeat all his competitors adding that the people of Uganda love him more than they love their opposition leader Kize Besigye.

“To the Ugandan opposition, after my father, I will defeat you badly in any election. Ugandans love me more than they’ll ever love you,” he said in a tweet.

Two months ago, Uganda President Yoweri Museveni’s son Muhoozi Kaneirugaba said that he was the country’s next president-designate.

However, on Monday, December 2, Museveni’s son Muhoozi Kaneirugaba ruled out the possibility of succeeding his father in the 2026 elections.

In a statement, Kaneirugaba said that succeeding his father President Yoweri Museveni has never been in his mind.

“Some people keep saying I want to be president. Frankly speaking, that has never been in my mind,” he said.

Kaneirugaba however said he will issue a comprehensive statement. He said the statement will be in his personal capacity and will not in any way represent the views of the country.

“In a few weeks, I will make an important announcement. Not on Twitter but by other means. I will make it in my personal capacity and as the leader of our generation,” he added.

Earlier Kaneirugaba opposed his father’s National Resistance Movement (NRM) for oppressing Ugandans.

While distancing himself from the movement, Kaneirugaba said he only believe in his father’s values but not those of his party.

“I believe in Jesus Christ and I believe in my father, General Kaguta Museveni. I certainly do not believe in NRM. In Marxist terms, it is probably the most reactionary organization in the country,” Muhoozi said.
