Mwangi Kiunjuri warns Ruto against being too sure about Mt Kenya

by Nderi Caren

Former Agriculture Cabinet Secretary Mwangi Kiunjuri has warned Deputy President William Ruto against being confident about conquering Mt Kenya region.

Speaking during a church service in the region on Sunday, Kiunjuri used the imagery of Mt Kenya itself, to explain how difficult it is for Ruto to gather the Kikuyu vote.

“You can not say that ‘I have now scaled the mountain’. It is too early to say that you have scaled the mountain, it’s so high, there is also ice up there. The weather can be very rough,” Mwangi Kiunjuri said on a weekend in which William Rto toured the Mt Kenya region, addressing supporters across several constituencies.

The former CS said that Ruto should not boast about conquering Mt Kenya, because he does not have everyone on board yet.

“Therefore, it is important for you to continue wooing the people but don’t think you have succeeded,” he said.

Kiunjuri further compared Ruto to his political opponents, who are working with all their allies in Mt Kenya region.

“Because the others who are following you know that it is very difficult to scale the Mountain, and what they are doing is bringing all the sheep together. They are trying to seek support from all of us,” he explained.

The statement comes at a time 2022 presidential hopefuls are battling to ensure they get the support of the majority of Mt Kenya region which is considered the biggest voting bloc in Kenya,

Mwangi Kiunjuri and Gatundu South MP Moses Kuria have proven to be a hard nut to crack as Ruto aims at conquering Mt Kenya.

Other than other Tanga Tanga members from Mt Kenya, the two have remained bold in their call for the Mt Kenya region to have their own parties.

They have refused to abandon their outfits; The Service Party(by Mwangi Kiunjuri) and Chama Cha Kazi ( by Moses Kuria) to join UDA.

On Saturday, September 4, Moses Kuria bashed UDA for undermining other political parties, yet they are also new in the game.

“It is also a fact that UDA is perceived to be dominated by incumbent MPs who are hell-bent to lock out their potential challengers out of the 2022 race.

Further, a party that has only 1 MP and 2 MCAs from Kiambu, Nyandarua, and Nakuru cannot claim to have bragging rights to brand all other parties as regional or tribal,” Kuria said.
