Nairobi Senator advises Kenyans not to expect much from President Ruto’s government

by Enock Ndayala

Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna has poked holes in the 22-member Cabinet Secretary team appointed by President William Ruto.

Sifuna said the team comprised people with criminal records adding that the majority of them did not meet Chapter six of the Constitution of Kenya threshold.

“If you don’t have a criminal case, you have no chance of becoming a Cabinet Secretary under this government,” Sifuna said.

Sifuna, who is also the Secretary General of the ODM party wished the Cabinet Secretaries all the best but cast doubt on their delivery.

The vocal legislator said the Cabinet that was approved by the National Assembly on Wednesday, October 26, is not capable to turn around the country’s dwindling economic situation that President Ruto promised in the run-up to the August 9, elections.

“We want to wish them the best but I want to tell Kenyans to adjust their expectations even lower. This is not a team that can deliver the economic revival that we were told is coming,” Sifuna said.

Kivumbi.co.ke is aware that nominated MP John Mbadi had earlier claimed that the Cabinet secretary nominees had questionable character and were not going to deliver to the people of Kenya.

“The threshold in Chapter 6 is higher than the cases in court. We have a choice either to reject over 60% of these names or give President Ruto his skunk,” Mbadi said.

The president has already gazetted the appointment of the 22 cabinet secretary nominees to the Cabinet and what is remaining is the swearing-in which is expected to take place anytime from now.

Their gazettement happened on Wednesday, October 26, just minutes after members of the parliament approved them following a week-long thorough vetting process by the National Assembly’s Committee on Appointment.
