Nairobi Senator Johnson Sakaja open to working with William Ruto

by Enock Ndayala

Nairobi Senator Johnson Sakaja has said he is open to working with Deputy President William Ruto in the August 9, General Election.

This comes barely a month after city residents asked Senator Sakaja to join William Rujto’s UDA party.

Sakaja who is eying the Nairobi gubernatorial seat said he trusts the leadership of Musalia Mudavadi and that he will work with any presidential hopeful that the ANC party leader will forge ties with including William Ruto.

“I trust the leadership of Musalia Mudavad. If he sees it fit to team up with William Ruto or any other leader, I will go with him,” Sakaja said.

While exuding confidence that Mudavadi will make the right choice, the youthful legislator said he will support the former vice-president regardless of whether he will form a partnership with other presidential front runners or will go it alone.

“I am not a fair-weather friend, that I am supporting him only if he stands alone. Of course, that will be my ideal situation, but I will trust his judgment and choice,” Sakaja said.

His remarks come at a time when the deputy president is persuading the One Kenya Alliance co-principal Musalia Mudavadi together with his Ford Kenya counterpart Moses Wetang’ula to join UDA.

On Monday, January 3, UDA Secretary-General Veronica Maina said that the duo have been invited for a pre-election pact with William Ruto, just months to the 2022 elections.

“In case they accept it, we will listen to them because, as UDA, we are a democratic party that does not give demands. Yes, anyone who wants to support us has to join UDA, but we will listen to ANC and Ford Kenya,” she said.

But Khwisero MP Christopher Aseka warned the ANC leader against joining TangaTanga political wing stating that his political future will be bright if he joins ODM leader and 2022 presidential front-runner Raila Odinga.
