Nairobi Senator Johnson Sakaja protests changes to DP Ruto’s security

by Nderi Caren

Nairobi Senator Johnson Sakaja has raised concern following the decision to change Deputy President William Ruto’s security detail.

Speaking after Police officers from the General Service G company unit who used to guard William Ruto’s Karen home were replaced by Administration Police from Government Building Unit, Sakaja said the Deputy President deserves security just like any other leader.

“Security is not a favour that you give to the Deputy President, it is a right. And it is Kenyans who placed him there,” he said.

The Nairobi Senator also warned that the perpetrators of the act are indirectly promoting the deputy president politically instead of bringing him down.

“Those overzealous people and the Inspector General of Police will also have to answer to that; who are now trying to frustrate the Deputy President will know that it is counterproductive. If he lacks security, Kenyans will protect him,” Johnson Sakaja said in an address to the press on Thursday.

He further warned Public Officers against involving themselves in political battles unless they are ready to resign and join politics.

The Office Office of the Inspector General of Police Service has however termed the change of security personnel at Ruto’s residence as a normal operation within the service.

“Today…Security of Government Building Unit has been deployed to provide general security to the official residence of Deputy President William Ruto,

“This is a normal re-assignment of duties within the National Police service to enhance efficiency and effectiveness,” reads a statement from National Police Service seen by Kivumbi.co.ke.

The changes in the security details of Deputy President William Ruto have sparked uproar from his political allies and Kenyans at large.

This has been termed as a plan to frustrate the Deputy President, and coerce him to surrender.

According to Kapseret MP Oscar Sudi, who is a close ally of the DP, security changes have been made in all his rural and urban homes.

He has accused President Uhuru Kenyatta and Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’I of plotting the changes in order to frustrate the Deputy President.

The changes on Ruto’s security detail comes after he a war or words between him and President Uhuru Kenyatta.

The Head of state dared his deputy to resign, and the latter has vowed not to surrender.
