Nakuru governor installed as Luo elder after declaring support for Raila Odinga

Nakuru governor Lee Kinyanjui was crowned as a Luo elder weeks after declaring his support for ODM leader Raila Odinga.

On Tuesday, October 5, a section of Luo Council of Elders visited Kinyanjui at his office in Nakuru, where they installed him as a Luo elder.

He was given a hat, arrow, and shield; regalia resembling that of Raila Odinga’s father, the late Jaramogi Oginga.

The installation comes after Kinyanjui declared his support for Raila during on the former Prime Minister’s grand tours in Nakuru on September 21.

While hosting Raila Odinga in the region, Kinjanjui made a confession that he has never voted for Raila Odinga all his life.

This, he said, has changed because Raila has made remarkable efforts in building Nakuru and Kenya at large.

“When we needed you, you were there, you kept the country going the bills in parliament were passing, the peace was there, I can only say a big thank you,

“I have voted 5 or 6 times, and in those years, I have never voted for you. But in the coming year, I see that changing,” Lee Kinyanjui said in the presence of Raila.

Kinyanjui was also among the governors who vowed to popularise Raila Odinga in the Mt Kenya Region.

Together with Nderitu Muriithi (Laikipia), James Nyoro (Kiambu), and Francis Kimemia (Nyandarua), Lee Kinyanjui agreed to organize meetings to enable Raila to sell his policies

“We shall plan and coordinate structured engagement with the region focusing on elected leaders, community leaders, business leaders, farmers’ organizations, the faith organizations, and key opinion leaders and shapers in the region,” they said in a statement read by Governor Nderitu Muriithi.

As Lee Kinyanjui seeks Raila’s hand in his re-election in the 2022 elections, his tough competitor Susan Kihika has been porpularising William Ruto’s presidency to win the Nakuru vote.
