Nakuru Governor Lee Kinyanjui has protested the Jubilee Party’s decision to replace the late Senator Prengei with Isaac Ngugi.
On Thursday, September 23, the party announced Ngugi who hails from Nyandarua County as Prengei’s replacement, knocking out Peter Cheruiyot who is from the Ogiek community.
According to the party’s Secretary General, the late Senator Victor Prengei was not only representing the minority community but also the youth.
Tuju’s nomination sparked uproar from the Nakuru County boss, who accused the party of denying the Ogiek a chance for representation.
“While we may not be the decision makers in Jubilee, it is clear that consultation and stakeholder engagement has been deleted from the party constitution.
Jubilee Party has the unique distinction of employing and paying individuals to bring it down, self cannibalization,” read a post by Lee Kinyanjui.
The Governor also extended his attacks on Jubilee Party leadership, saying they are working tirelessly to bring down the party.
Kinyanjui explained that the party has been held captive by a few people in the leadership, and its time members take action.
“We are tired of witnessing the continued reckless action by a few people, who have personalized the management of a party that belongs to its members.
In the meantime, we respect your decision but assure you that we shall revisit soon. It is clear that our failures are also largely internal, perpetrated by a small clique that will not face the electorate,” Kinyanjui wrote in a social media post.
Senator Victor Prengei died on August 17 after he was involved in a road accident.
Before his death, the Senator had been expelled from the Jubilee party due to his support for deputy president William Ruto.
The first legislator from the Ogiek Community had been kicked out of Jubilee alongside 5 other Senators.
