Nandi Senator: President Uhuru’s mum should focus on raising grandchildren

by Enock Ndayala

Nandi County Senator Samson Cherargei has urged President Uhuru Kenyatta’s mother Mama Ngina to keep off succession politics and focus on raising her grandchildren.

This was after Kenya’s former First Lady questioned the upbringing of Deputy President William Ruto saying he has been fond of insulting her son.

But in an interview with Citizen TV on Thursday, March 24, Cherargei, a fierce critic of the Kenyatta family urged Mama Ngina to preach unity, peace, and love for the country ahead of the August 9, General Election.

“What she should have done as the former First Lady is to preach on unity and love,” the Nandi Senator said.

The legislator however said that President Uhuru’s mother has a right to campaign for any presidential candidate.

“I wish she would keep off politics. If she decides to play politics when the field becomes crowded, stay in the firing line,” he added.

While drumming up support for ODM leader Raila Odinga’s presidential bid on Tuesday, March 22, Mama Ngina accused Deputy President William Ruto of insulting his boss, a move she says was due to poor upbringing by his parents.

Speaking in Gatundu Constituency during the burial of Nelly Wanjiku Kabangi who she said is her cousin on Tuesday, March 22, the former first lady of Kenya defended the move by his son to throw his weight behind a Raila Presidency stating that he abandoned Ruto after he absconds his duties to chase his presidential ambitions.

“To those who have turned to insults, we will leave them to it, if that is how they were raised. Let’s all love one another because this country belongs to all of us,” she said.

However, Cherargei wondered how the deputy president had ill intentions towards the head of state yet she prayed for the duo back in 2017.
