Narc Kenya party leader Martha Karua has been unanimously elected as an interim spokesperson for Mt Kenya as the region struggles to find ways of remaining politically relevant after the 2022 General Election.

Karua who has expressed her interest to unseat Kirinyaga Governor Ann Waiguru was elected on Monday, September 20, in a consultative meeting held in Naivasha, Nakuru County.

A politician who can make decisions that others shy away from, the Iron lady beat other seasoned politicians including Gatundu South MP Moses Kuria, former Kiambu Governors Ferdinand Waititu, and William Kabogo to become the spokesperson for the GEMA community.

It is no doubt that the vote-rich Mt Kenya region will not field a serious presidential candidate for the 2022 presidential election but is working to ensure the region remains a major beneficiary of the government that will be formed after the polls due to its numbers.

While it is known that the region could have selected Karua to be its spokesperson to present the region’s demands for the 2022 presidential candidates including deputy president post as well as 40 percent state appointments, Karua said the region is pushing for long-term solutions for the region.

“This forum is not limited to the presidential race but to unite the Central Region and the diaspora. It is not a short-lived forum but one that will outlive us,

“We will be presented not only to presidential candidates but even to other agencies that may have a bearing including the security and revenue sharing agencies,” she said.

In what appeared to be a dig at National Speaker Justin Muturi’s coronation as the Mt Kenya spokesperson, Gatundu South MP Moses Kuria confirmed the election of Martha Karua as official Mt Kenya on an interim basis.

Karua said her mission will entail uniting the GEMA community which is split between the East( Embu, Meru, and Embu) and west (basically the Agikuyu) following the coronation of Muturi.
