National Assembly Speaker and Presidential hopeful Justin Muturi has dismissed claims that he is in any political coalition.
Addressing the press on Wednesday, January 12, after a meeting with his Democratic Party (DP) National Executive Council, Muturi said the OKA principals only came to wish him well after he had hand surgery.
He said him engaging any other party will be decided by his party members and not him as an individual.
“The decision of me engaging other parties in coalition talks can only be made by the top decision-making organ of DP. I cannot make that decision as an individual,” Muturi said.
Muturi who was accompanied by other members including the party leader Francis Munyao said a decision to join a coalition will be made during their NDC meeting. They said they will endorse Muturi as their presidential candidate.
“We will endorse Muturi as our presidential candidate and discuss matters about teaming up with like-minded parties,” he said. He said DP will hold its NDC before the end of February.
His remarks come a few days after the OKA leaders who included ANC’s Musalia Mudavadi, Wiper’s Kalonzo Musyoka, Ford Kenya’s Moses Wetangula, and former MP Cyrus Jirongo met him at his home and held a talk.
Kanu Party leader and Baringo Senator Gideon Moi Missed the event. ANC party leader indicated they could be forming a Coalition after he captioned the photos with an indication. He said Muturi could be joining them soon.
“More to join… Big coalition loading… One Kenya loading… fishing you a quick recovery speaker Muturi,” Mudavadi tweeted.
Kalonzo who did not speak anything about the meeting only retweeted the message by Musalia indicating to be communicating the same message.
