National Assembly Speaker blasts President Uhuru for joining forces with Raila Odinga

by Enock Ndayala

National Assembly Speaker Justin Muturi has wondered how President Uhuru Kenyatta joined forces with his former fiercest critic and opposition leader Raila Odinga.

Speaking during the launch of his presidential bid which former president Mwai Kibaki skipped despite being the guest of honor, Muturo said there is nowhere in the world where opposition and ruling party joined forces.

“Show me anywhere in the world in a functional democracy where a sitting government (President Uhuru) decides to join forces with the opposition (Raila Odinga) to form another government with complete disregard to the fact it is the government?” Muturi posed.

The presidential hopeful further termed as bad manners the March 2018 truce between the head of state and the opposition leader.

“These are the political bad manners that I am talking about. We must stand for something and not just the pursuit of power,” he said.

Retired President Mwa Kibaki, who had been scheduled to Muturi presidential bid launch did not show up at the Bomas of Kenya where the event happened.

After repealing Section 2A in 1991, the former head of state together with John Keen formed the Democratic Party, a political outfit that Muturi intends to use to seek for the country’s top seat in the August 9, General Election.

Kibaki who was the likeliest surprise guest who had been organized to grace Muturi’s major event however sent his apologies saying he could not make it for the endorsement of Muturi due to unavoidable circumstances.

However, despite Kibaki’s absence, the more than 1000 DP delegates endorsed the presidential hopeful to battle for the country’s top seat with ODM leader Raila Odinga and Deputy President William Ruto.

While drumming up support for his State House bid, Muturi, who was appointed as the party leader said none of the existing coalition means well for the country and Kenyans should make decisions by not voting them in the August 9, General Election.
