Ndindi Nyoro: Mt Kenya residents won’t miss President Uhuru after August election

by Amos Khaemba

Kiharu MP Ndindi Nyoro has sensationally claimed that Mt Kenya residents won’t miss President Uhuru Kenyatta after the August 9 General Election.

Speaking on TV 47, on Monday, March 7, Nyoro said that President Uhuru’s administration has only managed to impoverish residents of the Mt Kenya region.

“From where I come from this second term of President Uhuru, (handshake regime) has been doom and gloom in the region; from agriculture to the economy, prices of fertilizer, standards of life going down, the cost of living going up and that’s why we can’t wait for the president to depart,” Nyoro said.

The outspoken legislature opined that most Mt Kenya residents made their wealth during President Mwai Kibaki’s reign only for Uhuru’s regime to come and drain their wealth through punitive taxes.

“Majority of the people of Mt Kenya region made their wealth and money during the (Mwai) Kibaki regime, we actually miss him. I don’t think if there is any person in our region who will miss President Uhuru, because we have nothing in the pocket and he has stalled our projects,” Nyoro added.

The Deputy President William Ruto’s close ally further alleged that President Uhuru’s administration has been deliberately targeting businesses owned by people from Mt Kenya in the name of fighting tax-cheating.

“Is it only the people of Mount Kenya region who have issues with tax? The President has been impoverishing our people, he has been reducing the people who were created by President Kibaki into beggars and this seems to be very deliberate and strategic.” the lawmaker said.

His sentiments come barely days after Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) closed down Naivasha-based brewing company (Keroche Breweries) over KSh332 million tax arrears that, accrued since February 2021.

Nyoro added that President Uhuru has failed in his role as the political kingpin of the central region saying his failure has contributed to the rise of DP Ruto’s popularity in the region.

“A lot of confusion in our backyard was brought by the president himself because we gave him the mantle as the political kingpin of the region however, he disappointed the region by underperforming,” Nyoro added.
