Ndindi Nyoro on why he opted not to take CS post in President Ruto’s government

A section of lawmakers elected to the ruling party UDA have asked President William Ruto to drop DP Rigathi Gachagua as his 2027 presidential running mate.

Kenya’s President William Ruto on Tuesday, September 27, unveiled a 22-member team for consideration for Cabinet Secretary (CS) positions.

A host of figures who assumed integral roles in then-UDA presidential candidate William Ruto’s 2022 election campaigns could not be traced.

Among key faces that missed out in President William Ruto’s 22-member Cabinet was Kiharu MP Ndindi Nyoro.

The Kiharu MP was among close allies of President William Ruto from the vote-rich Mt Kenya region who was touted as a potential Cabinet Secretary but failed to make the cut.

However, in a statement on Wednesday, October 19, Nyoro said he willingly opted not to take a Cabinet Secretary slot in the Kenya Kwanza government.

The youthful politician stated that he wanted to grow politically adding that that could not happen if he was in the cabinet.

He said he preferred to stay in an elective post rather than an appointive post regardless of the salary and other perks.

“Many people kept asking why Ndindi Nyoro was not part of the Cabinet secretaries’ nominees. Today I will answer you all,

“If you want to grow politically, stick to an elective position and not appointed one. If things happen in your docket, you will resign and leave me active in work,” he said.

Nyoro was among the Mt Kenya politicians who withstood the pressure from the previous administration to marshal support for Ruto, who at the time was at loggerheads with his predecessor Uhuru Kenyatta.

Others who missed out on Ruo’s cabinet include UDA chairman Johnston Muthama, former Mombasa Senator Hassan Omar, and David Ndii, the man behind the bottom-up economic model on which President Ruto anchored his campaigns.

The National Assembly’s vetting committee has from Monday been interviewing those who were shortlisted for various cabinet slots.
