Newly formed DAP-K party swallows more politicians from Mudavadi’s party

by Amos Khaemba

The newly formed Democratic Action Party (DAP-K) of Kenya associated with Defence Cabinet Secretary Eugene Wamalwa is taking the Western region by storm as two MPs decamp from the ANC party of Musalia Mudavadi.

DAP-K led by Kanduyi MP Wafula Wamunyinyi is a beneficiary of the move by ANC and Ford Kenya to enter into political partnership with Deputy President William Ruto’s party UDA.

The most recent defections include MPs Oscar Nabulindo (Matungu) and Oku Kaunya (Tesso North) both elected on ANC party ticket who decamped to DAP-K saying they do not agree with Mudavadi’s latest move.

Speaking at Chui house the DAP-K headquarters, Marende criticized Musalia for not putting the interest of the Luhya community at heart when making his decision.

The former speaker of the National Assembly Kennedy Marende who recently was a key ally of Mudavadi also joined DAP-K who said his association with Mudavadi was halted after the ANC leader made a pact with DP Ruto.

“From the latest action by Mudavadi, I feel betrayed. You can’t give Kenyans a progressive country if you associate with bad a company. As a result of the step by Mudavadi, which is a bad step and suicidal politically. We shall leave him in the past,” Marende said.

Nabulindo and Kaunga join the long list of leaders who have joined the newly formed party from ANC and Ford Kenya.

Ayub Savula who defected from ANC and immediately made the deputy party leader of DAP-K accused Mudavadi of auctioning the Luyha community.

“Musalia you will walk alone without the Luyha community. We know the monies that Musalia was given to destroy the Luyha community. We will sweep the ANC house clean before 2022,” said Savula.

Speaking while welcoming the defectors, Defense Cabinet Secretary Eugene Wamalwa warned the Luhya community risked being in the opposition should they follow Mudavadi’s recent political step.

“What happened at Bomas showed us that Musalia is a supporter of Ruto. We cannot support a supporter. Musalia and Wetangula no longer lead us because they have failed the test of leadership,” Wamalwa said.
