Nyandarua governor says deep state plays big role on who becomes president

by Enock Ndayala

Nyandarua Governor Francis Kimemia says the so-called Deep State usually plays a bigger role when it comes to the presidential elections in Kenya.

Speaking to Citizen TV on Tuesday, September 21, the former Head of Public Service said it is difficult to defeat a popular candidate who the deep state is backing for the top seat.

Kimemia however said that the Deep State does not necessarily mean vote-rigging adding that the candidate supported by deep state has to be popular and electable.

Nyandarua Governor Francis Kimemia says the so-called ‘Deep State’ usually plays a bigger role when it comes to the presidential elections.

“Well, it (deep state) works, all I can say is that it works…the voters’ vote, the deep state also includes people in the villages; it goes up to the polling station. It doesn’t necessarily mean rigging,” the governor said.

With the 2022 presidential race gaining momentum, the governor said that the deep state will work better for a candidate who is not only popular but also can easily be elected.

“If you have two candidates at the rate of 50:50 and the deep state backs one you can be sure that one will win. But the candidate must be credible and electable…” he added.

Kenyans have been expressing sharp reactions with a majority not so sure about what the deep state is or who the deep state is and how it and whether it exists or not.

But Governor Kimemia acknowledged that indeed there exists a Deep State – a body of people, typically influential members of government agencies or the military, believed to be involved in the secret manipulation or control of government operations, including elections of senior politicians.

“…of course the state exists but I can assure you it could be deeper than deep,” he said.

Kenya’s Deputy President William Ruto is on record claiming that the so-called Deep State is scheming to lock him out of his State House bid.

President Uhuru Kenyatta and his handshake partner Raila Odinga have refuted claims that neither the handshake between the two was meant to rig DP out in the 2022 presidential election nor was it meant to instill the ODM leader as the fifth president.
