Nyeri leaders angry over DP Gachagua impeachment plans

by Enock Ndayala

On Tuesday, January 3, Bumula MP Jack Wanami Wamboka threatened to table an impeachment motion against Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua.

Wamboka faulted the second in command of only advancing the interests of the vote-rich Mt Kenya region yet he was elected to serve the whole country.

“Every time that man opens his mouth, you wonder whether he is the Deputy President of the Mt Kenya region. At some point, I will bring a motion in parliament to impeach you,” Wamboka said.

As such, Wamboka’s plans to impeach the deputy president appear to have angered a section of elected leaders in the Mt Kenya region.

Nyeri leader led by Governor Mutahi Kahiga warned Bumula MP against the scheme to remove Gachagua from the office saying the motion has no basics.

He said as leaders from the Kikuyu community, they will not allow anybody to belittle their son adding that any monkey business attempts to bring Gachagua down will be tackled on the floor of the house.

“We have heard one or two people talking about impeaching Gachagua and I want to tell them… that anyone who thinks he has the withal to bring an impeachment, let him know that we will tackle them on the floor of the house,” the governor said.

On his part, Nyei senator Wahome Wamatangi noted that the Mt Kenya region was solely behind Gachagua and that the DP should not respond to every dog that barks at him.

“We want to tell the president and his deputy that we are solidly behind them, please don’t stop at every barking dog,” Wamatangi said.

Kieni MP Njoroge Wainaina termed the plan to impeach Gachagau as ‘hot air’ saying that the motion will not see the light of day.

“This is hot air, we Mt Kenya are really waiting for that impeachment. We dare them to bring it. We are going to look at it in parliament and decide on it. All we can say is that it will not see the light of the day,” he said.
