Former Youth Principal Secretary Lilian Omollo who was charged over the KSh 9 billion NYS corruption scandal has declared interest in the Embu senatorial seat.

Speaking at her home in Rukira village in Manyatta constituency on Wednesday, February 2, Omollo said she has served in the public service department which entailed a lot of financial management, a factor that makes her best for the senate seat.

“We all know what the work of the senator is, it is to protect and bring home funds. In my previous work, I dealt with public service work, a lot of financial management,” she said.

Omollo who has an active case in court, however, did not reveal which political party she will be vying on.

While exuding confidence in emerging victorious in the August 9 General Election,  the former PS said that no one should compare her to any other aspirant.

“I do not think there is any aspirant in Embu who fits in my league. I will use my knowledge to help the people of Embu,” added Omollo.

The former PS was in the limelight in 2018 after she was allegedly involved in the NYS scandal.

She is expected to battle it out with Alexander Mundigi, Bosco Kiura, Pithon Muchoki, former Kamukunji MP Norman Nyaga, and Embu Deputy Governor David Kariuki.

Others who have expressed their interest in unseating current Embu Senator Njeru Ndwiga include University of Embu lecturer Fridah Karani and former Mungania tea factory director Samuel Mwafrika.

This is not the first suspect facing a corruption case to express interest in the field of politics.

In May 2020, Pavel Oimeke, a man at the center of KSh 200,000 bribery claims won the hotly contested Bonchari Parliamentary seat.
