The ODM leader Raila Odinga’s wife Ida Odinga had a rough time addressing a congregation of Catholic Women in Meru County.

On Saturday, March 26, Mama Ida, the wife of Azimio la Umoja presidential candidate was heckled as she made her remarks.

When she rose to speak the church women became hostile, they started booing her even some of the women started walking away.

Kivumbi.co.ke has established that the trouble began when the Meru Diocese Catholic Women Association (CWA) coordinator Sr Gemma Kathure announced that only Mama Ida would be allowed to address the meeting.

When she spoke, she reminded the gathering that she was there as Ida and the women should not heckle her just because she is a wife to the ODM leader.

“I am here as a woman and you should not fail to listen to me because I am Raila Odinga’s wife. When you dress in the Catholic Women Association dress; it means you are a Christian. The faith should not only be seen by the dress but also from your heart,” she said.

NARCK-Kenya leader Martha Karua was quick in condemning the act, saying women should not be used to achieve political agenda ahead of the August polls.

Karua wondered why the leadership of the women could invite Mama Ida and turn around and heckle her.

“Why invite a guest then heckle or boo them? Probably a stage-managed affair for the sole purpose of political zoning which is unacceptable.”

The Iron lady called on Kenyans to reject politics of intimidation saying people need a free space to sell their agenda.

“We must reject politics of thuggery, let everyone market their ideas without let of or hindrance,” she said.
