ODM Members of Parliament have accused Deputy President William Ruto of sponsoring chaos witnessed in the National Assembly.

On Wednesday, December 22, MPs turned unruly while in parliament the House turned chaotic with allies of the DP William Ruto, and ANC leader, Musalia Mudavadi, opposing the coalition amendments fronted by allies of President Uhuru Kenyatta and ODM leader Raila Odinga.

The legislators differed during a debate on the controversial Political Parties Amendment Bill with the debate turning into a shouting match among the lawmakers.

ODM Members of Parliament have accused Deputy President William Ruto of sponsoring chaos witnessed in the National Assembly.

Addressing journalists outside Parliament precincts, ODM MPs led by Suna East MP Junet Mohammed said the Tanga Tanga legislators did not come to do parliamentary work.

He said the barbaric act displayed by UDA allied MPs confirms that they don’t have numbers to shoot down the proposed amendments.

“UDA-allied MPs came for disruption because they lack the numbers to shoot down the (political parties) bill. They were simply sent by their leader (William Ruto),” Junet said.

The chaos witnessed in the National Assembly saw Deputy Speaker David Cheboi suspend the debate indefinitely to allow for amendments after MPs failed to reach a consensus.

“Honourable members, the Committee of the Whole House stage on the Political Parties Bill is automatically differed to allow harmonization of the multiple amendments proposed to the Bill,” Cheboi said.

Kandara MP, Alice Wahome, a fierce defender of William Ruto opined that the bill was ill-timed and accused the state machinery of using high-handed tactics to have it passed.

But Ndaragua MP Jeremiah Kioni told off Wahome saying that the bill would be more beneficial to the Tanga Tanga team than those supporting it.

“The political party’s bill will be more useful to the Tanga Tanga team than those of us who are supporting it. I sympathize with them. That blindness is beyond description,” Kioni said.
