ODM chairman John Mbadi has said former Prime Minister Raila Odinga cannot win the 2022 presidential elections without Musalia Mudavadi and Kalonzo Musyoka’s support.

Mbadi’s sentiments come barely days after Raila Odinga who is yet to declare his ambitions to succeed retiring President Uhuru Kenyatta said he does not need the support of anyone including Uhuru for him to win the 2022 presidential elections.

Mbadi told the Daily Nation on Wednesday, June 23, that the ODM party cannot underestimate the support of the other National Super Alliance (NASA) principal including Wiper Party’s Kalonzo Musyoka and Musalia Mudavadi of ANC have.

ODM chairman John Mbadi told the Daily Nation on Wednesday, June 23, that ODM party cannot underestimate the support the other National Super Alliance (NASA) principal including Wiper’s Kalonzo Musyoka and Musalia Mudavadi of ANC have.

“We cannot underestimate the support other NASA principals have. We have to incorporate them in our team,” John Mbadi told the Daily Nation.

The ODM chairman said that despite the fact that ODM party is crafting a merger with ruling outfit Jubilee, it does not mean that the other NASA affiliates have been locked out.

“We have left the door open for Kalonzo Musyoka, Musalia Mudavadi and Moses Wetang’ula,” he said.

This comes at a time when other NASA parties including Kalonzo led Wiper and Mudavadi’s ANC are accusing ODM of reneging on the 2017 agreement to back one of them for presidency next year.

ANC party has however welcomed Mbadi’s call to work together ahead of 2022 General Election but insisted that the Raila-led party must support one of the NASA principals.

ANC deputy party leader Ayub Savula said the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed by NASA principals and deposited at the Registrar of Political Parties, Raila Odinga was support other candidates in the 2022.

“Since the Chama cha Mashinani pulled out of NASA the automatic parties to fielda presidential candidate are ANC, Wiper and Ford Kenya. With Ford Kenya backing ANC, the race is between Kalonzo Musyoka and Musalia Mudavadi,” Savula said.

Yesterday, Makueni Governor Kivutha Kibwana revealed that the MoU signed by NASA principals prior to the 2017 General Election set the condition under which Raila was to endorse Kalonzo’s for the 2022 presidency.

He said that ODM leader Raila Odinga was to support Wiper party leader Kalonzo Musyoka’s 2022 presidential bid only if NASA won in 2017.

“I witnessed an agreement between Raila Odinga and Stephen Kalonzo detailing that Raila would support Kalonzo in 2022 if NASA won in 2017 and it was intact until 2022,” Kibwana said.
