Raila Odinga’s led party, the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) has deployed the biometric voting system in their ongoing party primaries.

Taking on Twitter on Monday, April 4, the orange party bragged that it is the first party in Kenya to employ digital voting in party nominations.

“Party Primaries in Kwale and Taita Taveta Counties kicked off today. And for the first time in the history of political parties in Kenya, we introduced digital voting where party members had their biometrics displayed before being allowed to vote. The exercise is going on well.” ODM wrote on Twitter

In photos seen by Kivumbi.co.ke, party members are seen using electronic kits to cast their votes in the ongoing exercise.

The exercise that was supposed to commence in Nakuru on April 1, was postponed for fear that there were plans to disrupt the exercise.

The party has also postponed the nomination exercise in the counties of Mombasa and Kilifi to give room for consensus building.

“The Party Primaries for Kilifi County and Mombasa County scheduled for Tuesday, April 5, 2022, and Wednesday, April 6, 2022, respectively, are hereby postponed to enable the conclusion of the ongoing consultations and consensus-building,” the party said in a statement.

Already plan by Raila’s led party to issue direct tickets in some counties is causing jitters within the party ranks as some aspirants accuse the party of not consulting them when issuing tickets.

For instance, the move by ODM to give Gladys Wanga a direct pass for the Homa Bay gubernatorial race angered Ex-Nairobi Governor Evans Kidero who has since declared his intention to contest as an independent candidate.

In Kisii County, there have been protests against the move by ODM to give Janet Ongera a direct ticket for the Women Representative seat.
