ODM deputy downplays Kalonzo, Wetangula, Mudavadi skipping of Raila’s event

by Enock Ndayala

ODM deputy party leader Wycliffe Oparanya has said Raila’s event will go on as planned with or without the One Kenya Alliance principals.

Speaking on Thursday, December 9, when he accompanied ODM leader Raila Odinga for the final inspection of Kasarani Stadium, Oparanya said the opposition party will respect the decision by OKA principals Musalia Mudavadi (ANC), Kalonzo Musyoka (Wiper), and Moses Wetang’ula (Ford Kenya) not to attend the event.

Oparanya who doubles up as Kakamega Governor further said that their skipping of the Raila’s event attaches little importance to the meeting.

“This is a meeting that everybody has been invited to and when you are invited, it is up to you to make a decision whether to attend or not. So if they have decided that they will not attend it is up to them. We cannot force anyone to attend Azimio la Umoja,” Oparanya said.

Oparanya spokes just hours after OKA Principals said they will not attend Raila Odinga’s Azimio La Umoja convention set for Friday, December 10, where the former premier is expected to make a major declaration on whether or not he will be vying for the presidency in 2022.

Former vice president Musalia Mudavadi yesterday said he will be engaged elsewhere adding that Raila is his competitor adding that he just but wish him all the best on his big day.

“Regrettably, I will not be able to attend because of personal engagements,” he said, “Raila Odinga is a worthy competitor, I wish him well because tomorrow will clearly be his day in the sun,” Mudavadi said in a Tweet.

Wiper’s Kalonzo Musyoka is in Juba for peace talks while Bungoma Senator Moses Wetang’ula said he will too be engaged elsewhere.

“I received an invitation to my brother Raila Odinga party leader ODM to attend his Azimio event tomorrow. Due to prior engagements, I will not attend. I wish him well,” he tweeted.
