ODM dismiss claim its officials endorsed Boni Khalwale for the top seat

by Amos Khaemba

Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party has come out to dismiss claims that its officials have endorsed former Kakamega Senator Boni Khalwale for the Kakamega gubernatorial seat.

In a statement on Twitter, the party termed the claims by Khalwale as fake, saying the officials in question are party ‘imposters’

“There has not been any meeting of ODM officials with the former Senator of Kakamega Boni Khalwale. None of our officials in Kakamega has met and endorsed him as he claims on his Twitter handle. Those are imposters,” ODM said.

The former senator challenged the ODM party to establish facts before denning what he called factual information pertaining to his endorsement by a section of the party’s county officials.

“You are living in denial, as a matter of fact, besides that endorsement, the Ikolomani constituency chairman Vincent Mukhono has defected to UDA party and is contesting for MP for Ikolomani,” Khalwale said.

On Monday, January 31, Khalwale had released a statement on his social media page saying he met ODM officials from Kakamega county who endorsed his gubernatorial bid.

“This morning, I held a breakfast meeting with Ikolomani North ODM party leaders. I am so grateful that they took the opportunity to endorse me for Kakamega Governor 2022,” Khalwale claimed on Twitter.

The Kakamega gubernatorial seat has attracted heavyweights who intend to replace Governor Oparanya who is finishing his two terms.

The ODM party ticket has so far attracted Deputy Governor Philip Kutima and Fernandes Barasa who will be seeking to fly the party flag in the August 9 election.

Khalwale currently facing stiff competition from the Cleophas Malala, both of who are affiliated with the Kenya Kwanza movement.

Lately, there have been reports of an agreement between Malala and Khalwale over sharing of the county seats, where one of them will contest for governorship while the other goes for the senatorial seat.
