ODM dismisses rumors Jalang’o has been locked out of Langata MP race

by Amos Khaemba
Lang’ata MP Phelix Odiwuor alias Jalang'o has for the first time spoken on how he navigated the stormy nominations of the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party.

Raila Odinga led the party, the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) has dismissed rumors that it has issued a direct ticket for the Langata parliamentary seat and locked out Felix Odiwuor, alias Jalang’o

Speaking to The Standard on Saturday, April 9, ODM’S chairperson of the National Election Board (NEC) Catherine Mumma said the party has not assured any aspirant of the party ticket in Nairobi County.

Mumma said the rumors could have been generated by aspirants out to influence the part’s decision on the ongoing consensus-building discussions.

“The ODM Party has not met to determine which candidates get its ticket in Nairobi. Being the electioneering period, candidates would use all manner of psychological warfare to try and arm-twist the party,” Mumma said.

On Saturday, April 9, social media was full of speculation that renowned radio presenter and Lang’ata parliamentary hopeful Felix Odiwuor, alias Jalang’o, had been shoved aside in favor of another aspirant.

Although the source of the allegation could point to the source of the information, social media users pointed out how Jalang’o has been shortchanged by the Raila-led party.

A random Twitter user Kamau Mwangi said “I hope Jalang’o is wise. He has been denied a Langata ticket by the ODM party without nominations. It’s time to join the winning team, Kenya Kwanza”

Twitter user Rodgers Mpuru said: “I warned my friend Jalas of party primaries, but he took my piece of advice as a joke…”

Jalang’o could later himself take to Twitter to assure his supporters that he is still in the race and no decision by ODM has been made.

“No one has been denied the ticket, and no one has been given. Forget the rumors… We are in the Lang’ata race to the end.” Jalang’o twitted.
