ODM downplays William Ruto’s 12 days US tour “nothing so serious about it”

by Enock Ndayala

Former Prime Minister Raila Odinga’s ODM party has watered down Deputy President William Ruto’s 12 days trip to the United States of America and the United Kingdom.

The deputy president left the country on Sunday, February 27 accompanied by ANC leader Musalia Mudavadi and their associates.

The Kenya Kwanza leaders who have bitterly fallen out with Kenya’s President Uhuru Kenyatta are expected to hold a series of high-level meetings with US top government officials including elected leaders, global think-tanks, and Kenyans living in diaspora.

Former Prime Minister Raila Odinga’s ODM party has watered down Deputy President William Ruto’s 12 days trip to the United States of America and the United Kingdom.

However, in an interview with KTN News on Sunday, February 27, ODM’s National chairman John Mbadi, an ardent supporter of Raila Odinga said the trip by the second in command is inconsequential.

Mbadi who is also the Suba South Member of Parliament argued that Ruto had no serious business in the US since he will not be meeting the congressmen.

“There is nothing so serious about William Ruto’s visit. I think he is going to rest and to meet some Kenyans there, a few people may donate a few coins for him here and there,” Mbadi said.

On his part, political analyst Makau Mutua who is also a staunch supporter of the ODM leader Raila Odinga said William Ruto’s tour was insignificant as it will not clean the second in command’s already tainted image.

Known for his sharp criticism against the deputy president, Mutua said that the officials who will meet the August 9, presidential hopeful are aware of the multiple corruption scandals the DP has been implicated in.

“The reported visit by the DP to the US and the UK will do nothing to burnish his image or his dismal international standings,

“Officials there who meet him knows his multiple corruption scandals and grave allegations against him at the International Criminal Court (ICC),” Mutua said in a Tweet seen by Kivumbi.co.ke.
