ODM responds to Jimmi Wanjigi’s call to hold presidential nominations

by Enock Ndayala

The Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) has told presidential hopeful Jimmi Wanjigi to be patient with calls to have the party hold the 2022 presidential nominations.

During his visit to Orange House on August 27, Wanjigi made a raft of demands including asking the party to choose the party’s flag bearer.

Wanjigi who has expressed his ambitions to fly the party’s flag further called on the party management to unveil a list of delegates prior to the National Delegates Conference meeting.

But Party Secretary General Edwin Sifuna on Friday, September 3, asked Wanjigi and other aspirants seeking various positions in the 2022 General Election to abide by the party’s rules before seeking the nomination adding that the exercise will be free and fair.

He said the party is not in a rush to choose its presidential flag bearer adding that there are four options stipulated under which the party can choose its flag bearer including direct nomination.

“The rules provide four ways of nominating party candidates. You can have nomination through consensus, direct ticket, delegates or through universal suffrage,” Sifuna stated.

Sifuna was speaking at party headquarters when he accompanied party leader Raila Odinga to receive defectors from the Jubilee party from seven counties.

Earlier this week, City lawyer Ahmednasir Abdullahi sensationally claimed that billionaire businessman-cum-politician Jimmy Wanjigi will easily beat former Prime Minister Raila Odinga in the ODM presidential nominations.

He said Wanjigi will easily win in ODM presidential nominations if the party will conduct a free and fair election.

“Let us be open about this…Jimmy Wanjigi (JW) in a free and fair party nomination will soundly beat Hon Raila for ODM Presidential nomination,” he said.
