One Kenya Alliance reveals when it will name its 2022 presidential candidate

by Enock Ndayala

The One Kenya Alliance (OKA) will name its 2022 presidential candidate early next year, ANC leader Musalia Mudavadi has revealed.

Mudavadi said the alliance’s technical team is working towards finding the flag bearer who would give ODM leader Raila Odinga and Deputy President William Ruto a run for their money.

Speaking during a church service at Friends International Centre in Nairobi, the former vice president called on the ANC legislators to be patient stating that good things take time.

Mudavadi’s statements come just a day after a group of legislators from ANC announced that they want the OKA principals to name a presidential candidate by next month.

Led by Kakamega Senator Cleophas Malala the ANC lawmakers issued ultimatums, claiming that time is running out and threatened to seek alternative political alliances if the principals failed to agree on a candidate to represent the OKA in the 2022 General Election.

Two weeks ago, Deputy President William Ruto challenged the OKA principals Musalia Mudavadi, Kalonzo Musyoka, Gideon Moi, and Moses Wetang’ula to name their 2022 presidential candidate.

The deputy president who was speaking in Nyamira town asked the OKA principals to get out of hotel boardrooms and name 2022 candidate so that he can deal with him.

“My competitors have been holding meetings in Nairobi hotels so that they can identify one person face me but unfortunately they are yet to agree. I am asking them to move with speed and identify their choice so that I can deal with him,” William Ruto said.

In August 2021, Mudavadi, Kalonzo, Moi, and Wetang’ula held a two-day consensus-building meeting in Naivasha where they insisted that the alliance will field a candidate in the 2022 General Election.

“We hereby unequivocally state that One Kenya Alliance will field a presidential candidate in next year’s General Election,” they said in a joint statement without revealing who they will front for the top seat.
