Jubilee Vice-chairman, David Murathe has said that it is only Raila Odinga who can face and even defeat Deputy President William Ruto in the 2022 presidential elections.
He said that the ODM leader has what it takes to challenge Ruto due to his political influence and the fact that he has many supporters.
In an interview on Inooro TV, Murathe dismissed the One Kenya Alliance saying that they should wait for another time to face Ruto.
Additionally, he said that there is a plan to make sure that Ruto does not clinch the presidential seat by all means and Raila is the right man.
“Our mission is to make sure that Ruto does not win the presidency even by an inch in 2022. Therefore, the only person to make sure we achieve this is none other than Raila Odinga. You can not ignore Raila, he has loyal followers from almost half of the country, “Said the party’s vice-chair.
His statement is a hint that Raila Odinga could be President Uhuru’s choice for his 2022 succession.
Murathe’s words only confirm DP Ruto’s earlier statement, saying that there are people in Jubilee Party whose main goal is to make sure that he falls.
In an earlier interview on Citizen TV, DP Ruto also said that Raila Odinga was the only strong opponent he has in the upcoming elections.
While dismissing reports of a possible coalition, the DP said that politics would have no meaning if they united with ODM.
“When I see Raila Odinga, I see my competitor in 2022. From where I sit, Raila is the most formidable opponent that I have in 2022 and I do not know how the politics of Kenya would look like. If Raila will not be my competitor, who will be my competitor? Because from where I sit, the two strongest forces we have politically is the Hustlers and the ODM team on the other side,” Ruto told Linus Kaikai.
