An opinion poll by TIFA has shown that Kenyans think ODM leader Raila Odinga is President Uhuru’s preferred successor in the 2022 State House Race.
The findings showed that 48 percent of Kenyans believe that Raila is Uhuru’s preferred candidate for the 2022 presidential bid.
This perception has increased since a similar poll conducted by TIFA in July showed that 32 percent of Kenyans believed Raila Odinga will be endorsed by President Uhuru.
However, 9 percent of Kenyans still believe that President Uhuru Kenyatta will endorse his deputy William Ruto as his successor in 2022.
This population decreased from 10 percent who believed that Uhuru will endorse William Ruto for the presidency in 2022.
Other presidential contenders ranked as follows in the list of Uhuru preferred successors.
Gideon Moi – 2 percent.
Musalia Mudavadi – 1 percent.
Kalonzo Musyoka – 1 percent.
The increase in a perception that Raila Odinga is Uhuru’s preferred successor could have been caused by a public endorsement he made on September 29, 2021.
In an address to Kibra residents, Uhuru posed that Raila Odinga is the best man to complete the projects they started under the handshake initiative.
“Haven’t we experienced peace after we come together with Raila Odinga? Haven’t we experienced development after the peace? Do you want the work to go on? Do you want that work to go on? The choice is yours? Will you make the right decision (in the 2022 General Election)? Will you make the right choice?”Uhuru posed in a direct reference to Raila Odinga amid cheers from the crowd.
Additionally, the perception that Raila is Uhuru’s choice could also be as a result of Jubilee legislators allied to President Uhuru popularising Raila Odinga, especially in the Mt Kenya region.
